Mother Delia Edmond, "Sister Delia", Was born on December 8, 1919 in Swainsboro, Georgia to the late Virgil Samuel Johnson and Ella Johnson (McClendon).
Her early years were spent in Manuel County, Georgia attending Rock Hill Elementary School. After the family moved to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1932, she attended Pompano Colored School (PCS) which was later named Blanche Ely where she also recieved her G.E.D.
Mother Edmond was united in holy matrimony to the late Kaiser K. Edmond. To this union three children were born; one daughter and two sons. Mr. Edmond preceded her in death on May 16, 1981.
In 1942, during a revival conducted by the late Elder Alonzo Turner, Mother Edmond recieved the baptism of the Holy Ghost and became a member of the Seaboard Mission (which later became Thomas Temple Church of God in Christ) under the leadership of the late Elder Charlie Thomas. She served faithfully under the leadership of Superintendent Robert L. Robinson until the time of her passing.
Mother Edmond's manner of service in the home, church, and community is admired by many. Her home was always opened to many in need of her "special nurturing". Her gentle and sensitive spirit was always evident as she ministered to the sick, gave to the needy, counseled and instructed.
In the church, she held many offices at the local, district, and state levels. She enjoyed working with the youth, Sunday School, Bible Band, Usher Board, and Home and Foreign Mission. In the community, her motherly gift with the youth drew many to a close relationship to Christ. Elder Robert L. Robinson appointed her Church Mother in 1989.
She retired from the Broward County School System with 32 years as a school bus driver. She took great pride in serving as Chaplain of the Bus Driver's Association.
